I was a happy YMCA member for many years, (San Diego, Mission Valley branch) However, I am voting no on Proposition 401 for the following reasons: I’d like the Y to find land outside the park.

I don’t believe a special lease for one favored, nonprofit organization is in the town’s best interest in the long run. During events in the park, additional parking is already a problem. I don’t want to see any of the big trees removed.

The three-tiered initial membership does not make it clear that the Y also charges additional fees for many of its activities and programs. Many families will not be able to participate.

We already have several gym facilities that are feeling the economic slowdown and deserve our continued financial support.
