Because of the “No Y in Park” signs, I realized you can’t literally completely spell Rumsey without a “Y” and I think it’s true that a YMCA would figuratively complete some of the town offerings in recreation.
I was given a free day pass to the Y from Rory Huff (and he has another 100, so Payson folks of all ages, individuals and family groups, can go down to use a modern Y. Call him at (928) 595-0136.
When I entered the Y at 6869 E. Shea Boulevard (use east door), it was different from the Y of my youth in Minnesota. I saw two young boys learning judo. Their pool is outside. I saw a number of adults using different workout machines; my “instructor” was a teenage boy named Brandon (I assume he was paid to work there part time … what a neat opportunity for employment!), he showed me the differences with their treadmill I was using for my 25-minute workout and the one I use at a local gym. I saw a grandpa and granddaughter waiting in the lobby, probably for another family member.
I picked up a brochure of available weekly programs in October, I thought the following would be of interest to some Paysonites: yoga for all ages, H2O aerobics, AbSolution, Silver Sneakers, youth circuit, children’s dance. In my mind, these are possibilities to think about when voting.
I suggest we vote yes on Proposition 401.
