Tom Schuknecht died Sept. 6, 2008. He was born Jan. 12, 1933 in Manitowoc, Wis. to Minnie Kirchner Schuknecht and Walter C. Schuknecht.
He graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a bachelor's of arts degree in economics and a graduate degree in banking.
He also attended Northwestern University and received a graduate degree in trust administration.
Mr. Schuknecht began a long career with the Northern Trust Company of Chicago in 1955. He was requested to serve in the U.S. Army for a time, but returned to his career and was promoted to second vice president in 1967.
He and his family moved to the Valley in 1974 to open the Northern Trust Company of Arizona. He retired in 1995 after 40 years with the same company.
He and his wife Marion moved to Payson after retirement, but made Phoenix their permanent home in 2006.
They attended many Presbyterian churches throughout their lives and Mr. Schuknecht became both a deacon and an elder with the church.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Marion Erickson Schuknecht; three children, Jan Marcus of Colorado Springs, Colo., Eric Schuknecht of Crowley, Texas and Heidi (Tim) Redelsperger of Phoenix.; three grandchildren, Shawn and Riley Schuknecht and Scott Redelsperger.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Jane, in 2008.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 11 at Emmanuel Presbyterian Church, 3839 E. Shea Blvd., Phoenix, AZ 85028.
