Arkansas Man Wins Quad Raffle

Tonto Rim Search and Rescue raised more than $35,000 during its annual fund-raiser and awarded one lucky winner, a 2008 Arctic Cat Prowler and trailer Thursday.

Paul Daniels of Mountain View, Ark., won the Prowler at a raffle held Sunday at the Labor Day Crafts Fair in Pine.

Daniels said he bought six tickets at The Tackle Box in Tonto Basin.

"I didn't expect to win," he said. Six years ago, Daniels won a Polaris 500 quad at a Special Olympics raffle.

"I guess you could call it luck," he said.

Daniels said he plans to enjoy the quad with his family on his 69-acre farm in Arkansas, near the Ozark National Forest.

Squad volunteers sold more than 3,700, $10 tickets all around Rim Country starting last November, said commander Bill Pitterle.

Rim Country Powersports, 3898 E. Highway 260, provided the $12,000 Prowler, purchased by TRSAR.

TRSAR assists the Gila County Sheriff's Office with calls for search and rescue in Rim Country. Last year, the group completed 33 missions, Pitterle said.

The organization is entirely volunteer-staffed and donation-run.
