Spotless Record So Far For The Longhorns

The Payson Longhorns improved to 3-0 with a 43-0 spanking of the Florence Gophers Friday evening in Florence.

The win sets up a Longhorn homecoming clash Sept. 19 against the Chino Valley Cougars. In whipping Florence, Payson jumped out early to a 7-0 lead when quarterback Ridge Halenar scored on a three-play 53-yard drive.

From there, Payson built leads of 16-0, 22-0 and 28-0 before coasting to the victory with reserves on the field.

The shut out of the Gophers was the second of the season for defensive coordinator Kenny Hayes's bandits.

Payson continues to be ranked in various state polls anywhere from third to first.
