Lady Longhorn Runners Finish Second In Payson Meet

It’s off to the races at Payson High School’s first home meet of the year. The event, which drew five teams to the girls competition, was held Sept. 10 at Rumsey Park.

Payson High School cross country runners made their 2008 home debut Sept. 10 in a multi-meet held at Rumsey Park.

The Lady Horns ran their way to a second-place finish with 56 points. Sedona reaped the gold by scoring a meet low 38 points. Blue Ridge (61), Alchesay (65) and Show Low (119) trailed.

In the six -team boys field, Payson did not receive a team score because it did not field the minimum number of runners.

Sedona emerged first with 38 points.

Individually, David Knauer ran well finishing 16th in the 40-runner field. He was clocked in 22:02 over the 5K course.

Aman Sharma was 33rd in 24:31.

Sedona's Jesus Rivera was first among the boys in 18:39.

In the girls competition, Payson's Lucy Schouten took fifth among the 31 runners. She was timed in 24:17.

Jessica Rydberg of Blue Ridge won the event by touring the course in 21:59.

Trailing the leaders for PHS were Jacquelyn Osterblad (eighth, 24:46), Lauren Nossek (13th, 26:46), Adrianna Barnes (14th, 27:56), Elizabeth Luna (16th, 28:15) and Meha Sharma (29th, 34:54.).

In the junior varsity girls competition, Lady Longhorn Amanda Lloyd finished 13th.

Payson did not have any entries in the jayvee boys meet.

The two PHS teams will be competing in the Sludge to the Judge homecoming run on Main Street at 1:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 19.
