Gila Supervisor Candidates Will Debate On Monday

The Citizens Awareness Committee will sponsor a Gila County Supervisor candidates forum for those running in Districts 1 and 3.

Voters are invited to the Payson Public Library at 2 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 22.

Incumbent and Republican Tommie Martin and her challenger, Independent Dan Haapala will speak on the race for District 1.

District 3 candidates include incumbent and Democrat Shirley Dawson, Republican David Cook and the non-partisan Ted Thayer.

Candidates will discuss their positions on the county’s sales and property tax rates, to what extent county services should be offered in the north end of the county, and if a bypass highway should be built around Payson and Star Valley.

Methods of procuring funding for healthy forests and candidates’ plans for Payson jail and courthouse facilities will also be discussed.
