Hellsgate Will Not Continue Automatic Renewal Of Iga With Houston Mesa

Have you felt the change in the air? Can fall be far behind?

I have noticed that some of the leaves have begun falling from the trees and a little bit of color is beginning to show.

Linda Stailey, outgoing president of Tonto Village II, was presented a certificate of appreciation from all of the members of the Hellsgate Fire Department, Tonto Village division, at an appreciation luncheon held Friday, Sept. 12 at the Mazatzal Casino.

I noticed it the other day on my marigolds. They got a bit of frostbite.

I was at my neighbor's house today and I noticed that the tomato plants have also been bitten by Jack Frost.

I haven't looked in the "Almanac" this year, so I don't know if we will experience an early winter. I hope that we do and will receive a lot of snow. Our ponderosa trees need it and the water table needs it.

Hellsgate Fire Department

The monthly fire board meeting of the Hellsgate Fire Department was held Wednesday, Sept. 10 at station No. 21 in Star Valley.

The board voted at that time not to continue the automatic renewal of the IGA with the Houston Mesa Fire District.

The auxiliary to the Star Valley station, the Starlites, will hold their monthly meetings beginning at 5:30 p.m., Monday, Oct. 6 at station No. 21 in Star Valley.

The purpose of the meeting will be the beginning of plans for the annual Spring Fling.

The auxiliary president, Judy Lecher, will be accepting volunteers for this successful event. Judy can be reached at (928) 472-1146.

The auxiliary to the Tonto Village station, No. 22, held their appreciation luncheon Friday, Sept. 12 at the Mazatzal Casino.

The outgoing president, Linda Stailey, was presented with an engraved clock and a certificate of appreciation from all the auxiliary members.

Grace Daniels was also recognized for her many years of volunteering with the auxiliary with an engraved clock.

The auxiliary has greatly benefited from the service of these two Fireflies.

Thank you Linda and Grace.

Birthdays, anniversaries

Robert Winchester formerly of Mead Ranch, and a retired member of station No. 23, Hellsgate Fire Department, will celebrate his birthday Sept. 18. Elaine Tetzke of Tonto Village III will be another year young on Sept. 19.

On a personal note, my longtime friend Phyllis Jenks and her husband will celebrate their 51st wedding anniversary on the same day, along with my son-in-law, Gary Harper, who will be adding another candle to his birthday cake.

Gloria Alliger, of the Payson Ranger Station and Tonto Village III will be having her big day on Sept. 23.

Former pastor of the Tonto Village Chapel, Charles Wilcox and his wife, Brenda, will celebrate their 27th year together on Friday, Sept. 26.

Happy birthday and happy anniversary to all.

Double D Doings

The ladies nine-ball tournament was again held on Tuesday evening. The winners were Ethel Cain, Betty Koutz and Payge Fierriera.

The next Scotch Doubles tournament will be held at 7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 26. Bring a covered dish to share and, of course, grab your partner for this fun event.

Domino Divas

The divas are still playing dominoes every Wednesday at the fire station No. 22 in Tonto Village. Go around to the back of the fire station and park your car in the back lot.

The lunch is now being served at 1 p.m. rather than 2 p.m.

The girls are not fussy about what you bring, there have been times when all we had was desserts. It doesn't matter, we will eat whatever is brought. Some of the food is so great that a cookbook has been suggested.

That would be sometime in the future. So, come and join this lively group of gals and have a fun afternoon.
