New Drainage Control Structure Being Installed At Preacher Canyon

To help control erosion, a new drainage structure is being installed at Preacher Canyon Bridge, east of Star Valley on Highway 260.

For three weeks, Bison Contracting crews have worked to install a new drainpipe, fix the slope on the east and west side of the bridge and create spillways. Spillways are made of concrete and steel and channel the water into the nearby canyon.

Arizona Department of Transportation public information officer Bill Williams said the sizeable project could take several months to complete but would not affect traffic.

By December, the $300,000 project is expected to finish.

"The way the forest is, it creates drainage and erosion all along the highway," Williams said. "We are in constant maintenance mode."
