Donations Appreciated, But Don’T Just Dump Off

The Payson Senior Thrift Store, 512 W. Main St., gratefully accepts donations of clothing, household items, small appliances, furniture, books and other merchandise in good, resalable condition. Suggested donation times are between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. when a receiving clerk is on duty. To make arrangements for donations at other times, call (928) 474-3205. Receipts will be given for tax purposes upon request.

Donations should not be left after hours because items cannot be secured from the weather and if they get wet or soiled they must be thrown away. Also, if unacceptable items are left, the Center must dispose of them, which costs the nonprofit organization money and staff time.

Sales from the Thrift Store contribute a significant part of operating expenses to the Senior Center at 514 W. Main St. such as Meals on Wheels, transportation for those who no longer drive, assistance with Medicare and Medicaid, educational and health programs and social activities.

Because of space limitations, health and safety issues and lack of volunteer workers trained to make major repairs, the store cannot accept the following items: large or broken appliances, furnaces, air conditioners, sinks, toilets or bathtubs, mattresses and box springs, torn, stained or broken furniture, hazardous materials, paint, encyclopedias, console TVs, water heaters, organs and pianos, computers and children’s car seats. For questions about other donations, call the above telephone number. The store is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
