Start Smart and Biddy Basketball
Start your child early with basketball. Start Smart and Biddy Basketball will be held on Saturdays for one month. The clinic is designed for young children to familiarize themselves with and begin to learn the sport of basketball. Each child will take home a T-shirt and a mini-basketball.
Registration takes place through Sept. 30.

Seventh- and Eighth-Grade Basketball
Enjoy a season of basketball. Each child will take home a reversible jersey and a basketball. Those who register after the deadline for their age group will be placed on teams only if space permits.
Registration takes place through Oct. 17.

Age: Seventh- and eighth-graders

Fee: $25
Adult Coed Volleyball
Competitive and recreation divisions will be offered with a four-team minimum for both divisions. Team entry includes league play and an end-of-season tournament.

Age: 16 and older

Fee: $225 per team
Naturalist Hike at Tonto Natural Bridge
This educational hike will take participants through ponderosa pine, juniper, pinyon pine and chaparral habitats at the Tonto Natural Bridge. The winding trail leads along scenic canyon walls, creeks and under the spectacular natural bridge.
Expect to encounter moderate slopes, but the trails are well maintained and are easy to traverse.
Arizona Game and Fish Department biologists will talk about plants and wildlife of the area during the hike. Bring binoculars and a camera. Transportation available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Registration takes place through Oct. 7
Dates: Wednesday, Oct. 8 from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Age: All ages
Location: Payson Parks and Recreation office for departure, or meet at Tonto Natural Bridge office at 10 a.m.
Fee: $10 with transportation; $5 without transportation.
Fly-Fishing 101
Learn the basics of fly-fishing for successful ventures in Payson and around the Rim Country. Class will begin with an educational slide show, and end with practicing casting at the lake. Loaner fly rods will be available for those who do not have their own.
Registration takes place through Oct. 10 at the Payson Parks and Recreation office
Dates: Oct. 11 from 9 a.m. to noon
Age: 10-plus

How can kids possibly sign up and play basketball without the Y ? That was one of the big complaints, some Dr's child couldn't play basket ball. Remember?
