Rim Country scrapbooking enthusiasts have an opportunity to do their part for the fight against breast cancer.

The Paper & Metal Scrappers store is participating in the national Scrap Pink campaign created by Better Homes and Gardens Scrapbook etc. to benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure (formerly the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation). The all-day event is Saturday, Sept. 27 at the Paper & Metal Scrappers store in the Swiss Village Shops of Payson.

On Scrap Pink Weekend, retailers will invite consumers to participate in an exciting in-store event where scrapbookers, cardmakers and other crafters come together to make a difference. Consumers will pay to attend workshops and crops, with $3 to $10 per project donated to support the Susan G. Komen for the Cure mission to find a cure for breast cancer through research, education, screening and treatment.

Brenda Martell and Barbara Wilembrecht, owners of Paper & Metal Scrappers, see Scrap Pink as much more than another fund-raiser.

“We want to give something back... honor our customers who have survived this illness, remember those who have passed on and carry on for those that are currently battling breast cancer,” Martell and Wilembrecht said in a release announcing the Sept. 27 event.

To ensure adequate space and materials for participants, reservations for the evening crop are recommended. Workshops during the day will accept walk-ins. The day’s projects include a cookbook and embossing metal for a travel mug, however reservations for materials are suggested.

Beginners are welcome as there will be a staff of trained professionals on hand to help.

A “make and take” creating a “pink” card is planned at the front of the store.

There will be raffle prizes created with the theme “Scrap Pink” in mind. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5. Winners will be selected at 4 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 27.

For more information, or to reserve a space or materials, call (928) 468-1188 or stop by the store at 804 N. Beeline Highway, Swiss Village Center.
