Editor:
To commemorate the 75th anniversary year of the Civilian Conservation Corps, the Payson Town Council proclaimed Aug. 29 as Civilian Conservation Corps Appreciation Day and the Northern Gila County Historical Society sponsored a corresponding all-day educational event.
Those attending learned about the significant contributions of the CCC by viewing exhibits and listening to presentations given by historians. The luncheon honored 12 CCC alumni — six from the Payson area, four from the Valley, one from Bisbee and another from California.
Sincere thanks to the following businesses for their contributions to the CCC Appreciation Day festivities held at the Payson Public Library on Aug. 29: Salt River Project (luncheon sponsor), Arizona Public Service, Elder’s Creations, Safeway, Bashas’, Chase Bank, PostNet, Walmart and Walgreens.
Special thanks to the Payson Town Council and staff, the Payson Public Library staff, and the following members of the Northern Gila County Historical Society for contributing their time, effort and talents: Betty Berryman, Carol Osman Brown, Jim Buettner, Judy Buettner, Sandy Carson, Roberta Feyereisen, Tom McQuigan, Nancy Purkey, Carol Sigsbee and Dick Wolfe.
