A Strawberry couple probing for their septic tank came up only with gas Monday afternoon after striking their gas line.
The couple was reportedly trying to locate their septic tank by probing the ground in their yard on Rimwood Drive, which is west of Highway 260, said Semstream president Doug Mann.
The probe struck the gas service line leading from the street to the home, creating a small half-inch hole.
“When they pulled the probe out and smelled the gas they put the probe back into the line to fill the hole,” Mann said.
The homeowners called the Gila County Sheriff’s Department who contacted Semstream around 1:10 p.m.
A technician in the area dug down three feet to reach the gas line and clammed it off by 1:30 p.m., Mann said.
The three-quarter inch pipe was repaired and no other homeowners were affected.
