FLW Bass Fishing Tournament
When and Where: April 15-18 at Roosevelt Lake. The Payson Walmart is hosting the final day weigh-in festivities from 3 to 5 p.m., Saturday, April 18 in their parking lot.
Fee: Free
FLW Outdoors bass tournament to be held April 16 through 18 at Roosevelt Lake with the final weigh-in at the Walmart Supercenter parking lot.
FLW officials say the tournament could draw 200 professional anglers, possibly 200 co-anglers, and have a total economic impact on Northern Gila County of $683,200.
Spring Flea Market
Date: Saturday, May 9
Time: 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Location: Payson Event Center
Booths are available for those people who would like to bring their yard sale items, crafts, etc. There will also be a special section for automobiles, horse trailers, RVs, boats, etc.
For further information, or to reserve a space, stop by the Parks, Recreation and Tourism office at 1000 W. Country Club.
This event is a fund-raiser for youth and adult equestrian programs at the event center.
OUTDOOR RECREATION
Kids Fishing Class – 5-8
Date: Wednesday, April 22 (half day of school with PUSD)
Time: 1 to 3 p.m.
Location: Parks and Recreation office
Fee: $5
Fifth- through eighth-graders can learn age-appropriate fishing techniques from Mark Kile, professional bass fisherman, at Green Valley Lake. All fishing equipment and bait for the day is provided.
PATS Hike — Peach Orchard Loop Trail
Date: Saturday, April 25
Time: 8 a.m. start
Location: Meet at Parks and Recreation office before heading to trailhead
Fee: Free
Like to hike, but not sure where to go? Join us for a free group hike on the Peach Orchard Loop Trail, which is a moderate to difficult 3-mile round trip hike with one very steep, rocky hill approximately 0.25 miles long. Come enjoy breathtaking views of the Mazatzal Mountain Range and Mogollon Rim, but don’t forget your water, stout hiking boots and walking sticks if needed. Due to limited parking at the trailhead, participants will meet first at the Parks, Recreation and Tourism office at 1000 W. Country Club.
Wilderness First Aid Certification Class
Registration Deadline: April 30
Start Date: Saturday, May 2 and Sunday, May 3
Age: 15 years and older
Location: Payson Fire Department conference room, 400 W. Main St.
Fee: $25/person
This course normally costs $125, but is offered at this discounted rate thanks to a generous educational grant from the American Red Cross. Space is limited, so register today!
14th Annual Payson Wildlife Fair
Date: Saturday, May 9
Age: All ages
Time: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Location: Green Valley Park
Fee: Free
Learn about local wildlife and the outdoors with the Arizona Game and Fish Department at this annual event for the family. This event is also co-sponsored by the Payson Ranger District, Mogollon Sporting Association and Payson Parks, Recreation and Tourism.
YOUTH SPORTS
Payson Golf
Registration Deadline: May 22
Start Date: June 8
Age: 10 years to 16 years by June 1, 2009
Location: Payson Golf Course
Fee: $30
Enjoy golf Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 to 3 p.m. during the weeks of June 8, 15, 22 and 29. There are only 30 spots available. There are opportunities for both experienced and inexperienced golfers.
Instructors include Chaparral Pines’ golf pro, high school golfers and experienced veteran golfers.
Enjoy an end-of-season ticket to golf around the course. Each child who registers will get a golf shirt. Equipment is provided.
Youth T-Ball
Registration Deadline: May 1
Start Date: May 25
Age: Pre – K (4 years by May 1) through second-grade
Location: Rumsey Park
Fee: $25
Join the T-Ball league! Nothing is more fun than watching your children play T-Ball. Each child who registers will receive a team T-shirt.
