Payson Little League opening day games will be played from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. April 18 on Rumsey II and III ball fields.
There is no admission charge. The opening day ceremonies tip off at 1:15 p.m. on Rumsey III. All activities should provide fun for all.
In addition to a full slate of both baseball and softball games, bounce houses will be available for the younger set, refreshments will be sold, the Payson Fire Department will make an appearance and local police officers will have speed guns to time pitchers, both Little League and wannabes.
Also making an appearance will be Dax Jones, who made his major league debut in 1996 with the San Francisco Giants and later played briefly for the Houston Astros. He will be on hand to give lessons and sign autographs.
Several raffles will also be held that have as prizes a 42-inch LCD flat screen donated by Rim, Sight and Sound, a three-month membership to the Tonto Apache gymnasium, a gold chain donated by Payson Jewelers and a $100 Safeway gift card.
At the snack bar, a $5 meal deal includes a hot dog or hamburger, soft drink and chips.
In front of the snack bar, a silent auction will be held.
All proceeds benefit the local Little League program.
Officials are inviting players, fans, parents and supporters to come out and enjoy a wonderful day of baseball and softball.
MSA hosts banquet
Mogollon Sporting Association members are stepping up to ensure the organization’s annual fund-raising banquet, to be held May 2 at the Mazatzal Casino, is the best ever.
Doors open for a no-host cocktail hour at 5 p.m. A prime rib dinner, auction and raffles follow. Tickets are $75 each.
MSA members Jack Koon and Ted Pettet say the banquet will feature many quality prizes, raffle and auction items, especially firearms.

Gracie shoot out at PGC
The Gracie Lee Haught Second Annual Golf Tournament will be held May 9 at Payson Golf Course. The tourney tees off at 8 a.m. with players checking in one hour earlier.
It will be played as a best-ball, four-person scramble and limited to a a maximum of 28 teams. The entry fee is $200 per team, $50 per player, which includes 18 holes of golf with cart, an embroidered GLH polo shirt, goodie bag, catered lunch, and door and raffle prizes.

As part of the Diamondbacks Arizona Home Town Series, Payson will be the guest community at the Diamondbacks vs. Washington Nationals game May 8 at Chase Field.
Game time is 6:40 p.m.
The pro clash will serve as a fund-raiser with $5 of each ticket going to benefit local parks and recreation programs that are now operating on a shoestring budget and only with financial help from Friends of Parks and Recreation.
The tickets, which usually sell for $25, will be priced at $15.
