What an exciting time. We are finally — after all these years of dreaming, planning, hoping and praying — breaking ground for the new shelter. YES!
On May 2 at 3 p.m., we will put that golden shovel in the dirt and take the first scoop toward the future! We invite everyone to join in on this long-awaited event. It will be happening on the site of the new shelter, which is located directly behind our current facility at 812 S. McLane Road. We’ll keep you posted on all the details.
We start the next series of wine tastings this Sunday, April 19, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Gerardo’s Italian Bistro, 512 N. Beeline Highway. This tasting is a salute to a good friend and supporter who we lost Feb. 25 to a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. Tim Bradley was a charming man who very much enjoyed a good glass of wine. This will be the first of all of our tastings that he will not physically attend, but he will be there in spirit, and the wines that we will be sampling are some of his favorites. The last of the five wines sampled that day will be a port, and Tim’s beautiful wife Leslie is bringing chocolate for all. We got kind of a late start on selling tickets for this event and still have plenty, so if you’ve tried in the past but have caught us after we’ve sold out, here’s your chance.
The next in the series is Sunday, May 17, and features wines of the great Northwest; and the last of this series is on June 14 featuring the wines of Spain. Gerardo always has a delicious selection of appetizers on hand to enjoy also. These events are a fun and delicious way to spend a Sunday afternoon. We hope to see you there.
Another fund-raiser coming up is “A Spring Tea” which is being held Saturday, April 18 from 1 to 4 p.m. at The Red Elephant Bakery and Cafe at 1101 S. Beeline Highway. This will be a fun time, with raffle items and much more.
It’s important to remember why we all are working so hard to raise this money — it’s the animals. They are depending on the good people of this wonderful community to support them as they wait patiently for a loving home.
For more information on these events, or to meet the beautiful animals featured in today’s article, please come and see us at 812 S. McLane Road, or call (928) 474-5590.
Brandie is a 3-year-old Collie/Spaniel mix. She was originally turned over because her owner went away to college. She was then adopted and returned due to family health issues. Her last owner describes her as a very gentle dog with a “flower child” personality. She loves to play and gets along with other dogs very well. She likes to chase cats, so a home with cats may not be best for her. She is an active gal who needs and active home to fit in to. She will love you forever and will graciously show you everyday.
CHARLIE and KEI
Charlie and Kei are best friends and special guys. Their owner died, and his daughter brought these two to us, because she knew in her heart we would get them the best home, and would make sure they go together. Charlie is a 5-year-old Schnauzer mix and Kei is an 11-year-old Cavalier mix. Both were rescue dogs. They are potty trained, leash trained and love to ride in the car. They are playful and active and are currently in a foster home together. If you are interested in them, please contact the shelter, but remember — they MUST go together.
Jasmine is a 1-year-old Lab mix. She was adopted from us when she was a puppy, and ended up back here as a stray. Her previous owners supposedly gave her away and didn’t know to whom, so we couldn’t contact anyone to come get her. She is outgoing and independent and really loves to play with the other dogs. She is a sweet gal who would make a great family dog, and would enjoy walks and outings with the family.
Sadee is a 3-year-old Walker hound. She was abandoned by her owner, who adopted her from us over two years ago. She is a good girl with a sweet personality. She likes to play and gets along with the other dogs. She walks like a true lady on lead and rides very well in the car. Sadee can be a bit shy, but can you blame her? Being abandoned has got to be the worst feeling ever. It’s up to you and me now, to help Sadee find her forever home.
Cali is a 1-year-old spayed female. She is a beautiful Calico, who was originally brought to us as a humanitarian hold. Her owners moved to Texas and needed some time to get settled and then they would come back for her. Well, things changed and now Cali belongs to us. She is a very expressive cat, who is very independent and outgoing. She loves attention and is a great cat. She seems to do fine with cats and dogs, and she loves kids. Cali will make a great family pet and is ready to come home with you today.
Booger is a 3-year-old neutered male. He was turned over along with his buddy Ty, because their owner was moving and couldn’t take them along. Booger is outgoing and loves to talk. His big, wide eyes are soft and welcoming and he truly is a sweet guy. He gets along with other cats and children. He is vocal and affectionate, and is ready to find his forever home.
