This was the only Coronet R/T Convertible 440 Magnum equipped with a four-speed transmission produced in 1968.
I purchased my convertible from Maledy Motors, Salem, Missouri on April 16, 1968 and took delivery May 9th. Maledy Motors was a dealer for Chrysler, Dodge, Plymouth, GMC, and New Holland farm machinery. My R/T arrived at the dealer a week before I would pick it up. For this time the dealer put it on display and put an ad in the Salem newspaper to have people come see this special “factory hot rod.” It is equipped with a four-speed transmission, Dana 60 Sure-Grip, Rallye instrument cluster, power steering, and power disc brakes.
The car was my only driver for about three years. During this time it participated in the street race scene, and did very well. Along the way we managed to pick up a speeding ticket for 140+.
I moved to Arizona in 1969, which is why it is not rusted out. I bought a business in 1971 and parked the R/T to use a company truck. In 1979 Arizona passed an emissions law which the 440 Magnum would not pass. The car was put in storage where it stayed until 2004.
I finally brought it out of storage in 2004 and cleaned it up, freshened up the engine, and put it back on the road. The car is a true survivor because it has the original top, interior, paint, even the original spare tire in the trunk. The engine received fresh rings, seals, gaskets, lifters, rod and main bearings. The cylinder bores were amazingly clean, needing nothing, and the crank had no measurable wear, proving how tough these 440s were. The engine has the original carburetor, intake, heads, exhaust, block, crank, pistons and rods. It is a real survivor.

In 2006, I took the car to “Mopars at the Strip” to be in the Survivor tent. My car was one of 30 invited to participate in the car show in the amphitheater at the Cannery Casino for Friday night festivities, where it was awarded the Cannery Choice plaque.
We bought our 1975 Dodge D100 short bed complete as pictured. It is powered by a 1996 V10 Magnum with milled and ported heads, Mopar performance cam and custom stainless headers with custom 3-inch dual exhaust. It’s lowered and has 18-inch wheels, shaved door handles, remote door locks, power windows, custom sound system, all Auto Meter ProComp gauges and bucket seats. It is a lot of fun to drive and does attract attention.
