This past week has been very hectic for the Snyder household. Our youngest daughter, Carolyn Peterson, visited us for the first time since she moved to Iowa.
The time was short, only a few days, but the time was well spent. Carolyn and her husband and three kids had a great time going to Fossil Creek Goat Ranch and seeing newly born twin goats.
We also took the kids to see the Tonto Creek Fish Hatchery and their eyes popped at the size of the trout. The biggest thrill was taking them fishing on the creek and each one of them landed a fish. They were so excited. Their son Calvin fell in the creek. We told him that he was now initiated as a trout fisherman, but that he could only fall in one time. It was delightful to see how excited they were.
Hellsgate Fire Department
This past Sunday afternoon, Hellsgate Fire Department in Tonto Village was called out to the paleo site along Highway 260 just east of the Village.
A young climber fell down a hill while he was checking out rocks at the site. He loosened a very large rock and it rolled down the hill and hit a woman. The unfortunate and freaky accident broke the climber’s leg and the woman’s leg. The most unfortunate thing was that it killed the dog that was with them. They were transported by Life Star Ambulance Service to Payson Regional Medical Center. Christopher/Kohl’s Fire Department also assisted with mutual aid to the scene. A big thank you to the Christopher/Kohl’s Fire Department for the ongoing mutual aid with the Hellsgate Fire Department. The relationship between both fire departments is the best it has ever been.
Tonto Village Chapel
Get well wishes to Pastor James Barker. Pastor Jim has had a bit of heart trouble and this past week he has gone down to Good Samaritan Hospital in the Valley for a pacemaker implant. The Village hopes that he will soon be back on his feet and at the pulpit.
The chapel now has a Web site that you can visit for the latest updated news of the goings-on with the chapel’s congregation. The Web site is: www.tontovillagechapel.com.
The regular nine-ball tournament got under way at the Double D this past Tuesday evening with the Christopher Creek gals ready for battle with the Tonto Village gals. The first place winner was Margaret Stasney of the Village. This was the last time that Margaret would be playing pool with the gals, since she is moving to Texas to be near her family and her ailing father. Margaret, you will be missed!
Second and third place winners were Patty Boeschling and Nanci Olson from Christopher Creek.
On Sunday afternoon, the eight-ball players took over the tables. Payge Ferriera, Cliff Landrum and Harvey Poyner were the three top winners.
Congratulations to all the winners.

You know you are from Arizona when you drive two miles around a parking lot looking for a shady place even in the dead of winter!
