Main Street Merchants Celebrate Anniversary Of First Friday

May brings warmer weather to enjoy in Payson, and Main Street merchants are celebrating the second anniversary of First Friday’s recognition by the Arizona Main Street Program as the 2008 Arizona Main Street Award for Best Special Event.

In the history of the honor, the Payson First Friday celebration is the only special event that won for an ongoing program.

“The merchants of Historic Main Street want to thank the community of Payson for helping make this event possible. We are unique in Arizona and bring a new meaning to the ‘Heart of Arizona’,” said Charles Proudfoot of the Main Street Merchants Guild.

Join the merchants for this celebration on Friday, May 1, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Community Presbyterian Church will have dinner with cheese enchiladas, Spanish rice, beans and cake for a nominal donation of $5 per meal. Bring the family and party like there’s no tamale! Colleen Brown and The Starlighters will entertain diners. Then hop on the Main Street Shuttle and see the rest of the party on Main Street.

This year-round event is held rain or shine in Payson’s Historic Business District. As always, on-street parking is available, or you can park at Community Presbyterian and ride the Main Street Shuttle. First Friday on Main Street is presented by the Payson Main Street Merchants Guild along with the Payson Regional Economic Development Corporation.
