After giving a little thought on raising monies for the Payson animal shelter, I think that my idea would work.

Whenever anyone wants to purchase a pet from the shelter, a microchip could be place into its ear. It should contain the name, address and phone number of the buyer.

In case the pet is lost or abandoned, the owner would be contacted and given the choice of him or her paying a fine or (having their pet) euthanized. (Hint, pick paying the fine).

Why should an innocent animal be punished, when the irresponsible pet owner is the one guilty?

Please, pet owners, take responsibility for the gift of love that you have in your care.
