In a move that surprised the board, Reed Cox resigned as director of the Payson Senior Center last week.
President of the board, Barbara Underwood said Cox came to the Center seeking a new challenge after retiring from a previous job.
“He and his wife gave us two good years at the Center,” she said. “Reed told the seniors on Friday that he was going to take time off for surgery and recovery. He was then going to travel with his wife, Barbara. The board of directors and the seniors are going to miss him, and wish him the best in his travels.”
“He did a lot of good for the center and took us in a direction we wanted to go,” Underwood added.
The board plans to start advertising for a new director this week. Until the right fit for the seniors is found, the Center will be operated as if Cox was just on vacation, Underwood said.
“We have a lot of good employees there who will take on added responsibilities,” she said. The board members will also step in where needed.
Underwood said members of the Center and others who use the facility don’t need to worry about any drastic changes. Attempts to contact Cox for comments on his resignation were not successful.
