The National Night Out event, which took place Aug. 1 at Green Valley Park, was such fun. It was like having a community picnic with lots of extras. Besides all the good food, many fun things to do for kids and adults, there were useful hand-outs of information.
The final touch was the wonderful music provided from 4 p.m. on.
I especially liked Bill Camp, who sang and played the guitar. My husband and I left the Optimist Club food booth, where we had been working, to listen and dance to his music because he is so good!
We did wonder why Bill was not mentioned in the media before and after the National Night Out. We saw and heard about the other musicians, who donated their time, but not Bill Camp. We think it is important to give credit to people, if they perform, especially if they are local and/or donating their time.
It should be the responsibility of the event coordinators and whatever media is mentioning the event to make sure this happens fairly whenever possible.
