As part of a small community in Payson I am saddened to learn of the tragic motorcycle accident that recently took Ken Shelton’s life. My heart goes out to Ken’s family and friends and also the lady that was riding with him on the motorcycle. We are all praying for her. The one thing I do think about is that Ken did love to ride his motorcycle and if any of us could personally choose our own ending it would probably be doing something we love.
We, as a community, are now faced with another potential tragedy and that is that Ken had two beautiful German Shepherd (mix) dogs, Sasha and Thai, that sincerely loved him and that he cared for, for many years. I met these dogs when Ken was helping me with some work around my house and they so loved him that, whenever they heard Ken’s truck driving down my road they managed to get out of the fence and come down across the river to see “Dad.”
Some kind souls that live in East Verde Park have been buying food and watching over these wonderful, loving animals since Ken’s death but now the Humane Society of Central Arizona is currently caring for these devoted companions. However, because of the severe economic situation, they are “overbooked” and overloaded in their facility and are only in the beginning phases of the their new building project. As a community of Ken’s neighbors, friends or fellow animal lovers, hopefully we can help. I am sure we either know some loving person that could adopt these dogs or help to provide care for them. They not only have lost the one human in their lives that has cared for and loved them all these years, but now face a life and death situation of their own.
