Payson Masonic Lodge No. 70 will once again be providing a Merry Christmas to approximately 50 of the neediest children from five Rim Country schools — Payson, Tonto Basin and Pine/Strawberry. The children selected for this program by the school authorities are in grades kindergarten through fifth.
The children will arrive at the Masonic Lodge in Payson at 7 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 19 where they will be assigned a chaperone. They are then treated to a hearty breakfast before being transported to Walmart on a Payson Unified School District bus with their chaperones. Each chaperone then purchases up to $100 in new, warm clothing for each child in their care.
Chaperones and children are then returned to the lodge where Santa Claus is on hand complete with elves to hand out age-appropriate gifts to each child.
The need this year is even greater due to the current economic situation we are presently experiencing. Lodge Master Dan McEuen expressed sincere appreciation to individuals and businesses that have been very generous with donations that fully fund this critical program and noted that 100 percent of the solicited donations benefit the children involved.
