Police say a Payson man who assaulted his elderly mother ended up stabbing a man who tried to intervene.
Thomas Reasons, 49, was arrested on charges of aggravated assault, domestic violence-assault, domestic violence-criminal damage and domestic violence-threats on Nov. 30, said the Payson Police Department in a press release.
Around 9:30 p.m., police received a call that someone had been stabbed at a home in the 900 block of East Granite Dells Road.
When officers arrived, they found Terry Brooks bleeding from a stab wound in his abdomen on Mud Springs Road and Reasons near the trailer park court. Through an investigation, officers learned that earlier in the day, Reasons had assaulted his elderly mother after she asked him to come home from a friend’s home where he was drinking and watching football.
Upset with his mother for making him come home, Reasons struck her several times and dragged her through the house, said Payson Police Chief Don Engler. After the assault on his mother, Reasons and his nephew had an altercation and at that time, Brooks attempted to intervene.
“At that point, Brooks was stabbed once in the abdomen,” the press release states.
Brooks was flown to the Scottsdale Osborne Hospital in stable condition.
