The storm that roared through the Rim Country Dec. 7 and 8 wreaked havoc on the Payson High School basketball schedule.
Both the boys and girls games scheduled for Dec. 7 in Wilson Dome against Holbrook and the following day in Show Low were postponed due to snowy and wet roads that made travel on Highway 260 hazardous.
The games against Holbrook have been rescheduled, but make-up arrangements vs. Show Low are pending, said PHS Athletic Secretary Stephanie Shields.
The games against the Roadrunners will now be played Jan. 2, but because that date is a Saturday, game times will be different than the traditional 4:30 p.m., 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. starts given most contests.
The Lady Longhorns will play at 4 p.m. (freshmen), 1 p.m. (junior varsity) and 2:30 p.m. (varsity). The boys will play at 2:30 p.m. (freshmen), 1 p.m. (junior varsity) and 4 p.m. (varsity). All games will be played in Wilson Dome and the old PHS gymnasium.
By the time the make-up games roll around, both Longhorn teams will have plenty of experience to buoy them.
The girls are scheduled to compete Dec. 17 to 19 in the Winslow Invitational Tournament and Dec. 28 and 29 will host the Holiday Hoops in Wilson Dome.
The boys compete Dec. 28 to 30 in the Bradshaw Mountain Invitational.
Shields said as soon as the make-up dates against Show Low are decided; she will make the information public.
Those games are crucial to playoff hopes since they are East Region clashes.
