It’s a stinky, messy and expensive mess.
Trash not only rots up your yard, it can take a bite out of your wallet.
Disposing of large amounts of refuge often involves trucking out 13 miles to Buckhead Mesa Landfill across from the Tonto Natural Bridge, paying a fee and then driving back, all too often to turn around and do it again.
Waste Management has an alternative to the long drive, said Melodi Deaton, Payson manager.
Businesses and residents can use WM’s in-town transfer station, at 902 N. Chennault Parkway, for all nonhazardous waste.
“A lot of people don’t know we’re here,” Deaton said.
A transfer station is similar to a dump site, with trash being dropped off, however, at a transfer station the waste is then removed and taken off site. With WM, Payson’s trash is taken to the Valley.
The advantage with a transfer station is we offer a paved area where people can drop trash, Deaton said.
“We clean up the (dump) area every day, so you don’t have to worry about nails,” she said.
