A New Hampshire transplant hopes to add a little East Coast flare to the Payson restaurant scene.
In early November, John Makosiej took over ownership of Famous Sam’s, at 307 S. Beeline Highway.
One of Makosiej’s first items of business was instating daily promotions.
While most Rim Country residents are familiar with Famous Sam’s karaoke night on Wednesday, they now offer free pool from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday, half-price kid’s meals on Tuesday, ladies night on Friday, a DJ on Saturday, football on Sunday and theme night on Thursday.
“This is a great restaurant with great food, but it is also great for dancing,” said daytime bartender Bri Boertman.
Makosiej bought the Famous Sam’s after the previous owners decided to relocate to the Valley. While he has never owned a restaurant before, he said he is up for the challenge.
“This has been a long term dream and I am very happy to have pulled it off,” he said. “I would love to expand and open another bar or restaurant.
“My new goal is to have one of everything, a bar, nightclub, restaurant and upscale steak house.”
Makosiej said he isn’t too concerned about the recession because the restaurant has survived the worst of the storm, he believes.
“I don’t figure it will get worse,” he said.
On top of great food and drinks, Famous Sam’s also offers off-track betting.
