Gloom turned to joy for Rim Country advocates for Tonto Natural Bridge State Park on Tuesday, as the State Parks Board voted to close the park only temporarily to fix the roof of an historic lodge near collapse as a result of recent heavy snowfall.

Our own Tommie Martin and Supervisors Dawson and Pastor, stepped up to the plate and hit a home run for local school districts this past Tuesday. By voting to allocate Federal Forest Fees to the school districts, based on a formula submitted by the district superintendents of Gila County, they have brought some sunshine into a pretty gloomy financial forecast. PUSD is grateful for their courageous support of our students and schools.

When I was a kid I loved to hunt. I preferred shooting something alive to targets. As an old man I seem to feel sorry for the animals. I still love to see a father take his son or daughter hunting, so you see I am confused.

Anyone reading My Horseback Opinion might wonder, where the heck does Jinx come up with this kind of stuff? When Jayne and I got married, one of my girl cousins told her, “Jinx just says things; no one knows why.” With that in mind, let me give you a little personal background. My lineage runs back through six generations of Mogollon Rim and Tonto Basin ranchers, lion and bear hunters, lawmen, packers, prospectors, bootleggers, bank robbers, cowboys and other men of common sense. They all said stuff — they all had opinions.
