Pearls are highly prized commodities — created by lowly mollusks. A pearl begins as an irritant, which is then coated over by the materials the mollusk uses to build its shell.
Natural pearls are rare and over the centuries, the word “pearl” has become a metaphor for something very rare, very fine, very admirable and very valuable.
So, the 2009 Women’s Wellness Forum, “Pearls on the Path” aims to provide participants with something very valuable to retrieve on their walk through the day’s activities and presentations.
The March 14 program at Payson High School is limited to 300 participants and costs $10 per person. Scholarships are available.
The day starts at 7 a.m. with the optional dance exercise program “Karoomba!” by Christy Walton. Based on the popular Zumba® program, there is lots of upbeat Latin music and the moves are suitable for any fitness or skill level, Walton said.
Registration materials and a continental breakfast are available from 7:15 a.m. to 7:50 a.m.
The formal opening of the forum and the keynote address are at 8 a.m.
The featured speakers for the keynote address are Pauline Napier and Michelle Napier-Dunnings, who will present the program “Trusting the Healing Wisdom Within.”
In order to bring healing power into our communities, the two believe we need to learn to trust. This trust is built on the knowledge that everyone has tremendous wisdom, inherited from past generations, residing within each of us, and impacting the next generation. Through stories and reflections the team will offer their perspectives on health and wellness.
Following the keynote, participants will go into a series of three breakout sessions of their choice. These will be held between 9 a.m. and 12:20 p.m. in the classrooms around the high school auditorium. Lunch will be served starting at 12:30 p.m. in the old gym at PHS. With lunch participants can also enjoy a vendor fair featuring merchants and organizations from throughout the Rim Country, plus some from the Valley and elsewhere in the state.
Napier and Napier-Dunnings will offer one of the breakout sessions: “Tapping the Healing Energy Within” which builds on the ideas presented in the keynote address. Participants will engage in an interactive session where small groups will explore their historical culture and its impact on their individual well-being today. They will look at how “wellness” feels, looks and sounds. With that knowledge, participants may awaken how they can hold onto those feelings when journeying through their everyday lives.
Penny Navis-Schmidt will present Qigong, a meditative movement class that can help manage stress and bring busy lives into balance by enhancing physical, emotional and spiritual well-being.
Annemarie Eveland’s breakout program is Face Reading. Features on faces are special personality pearls and very useful treasures in life. Each feature and line means something. Traits are those face features easily and quickly identified as a person is walking toward us, or upon first meeting, face to face. Knowing these traits help us establish rapport, enhance our communications, create lasting good relationships, and make it easy to resolve situations with difficult people.
Jeri Byrne will present A Purse Driven Life, which is based on the book “Total Money Makeover” by Dave Ramsey. This Christian-based class will help you realize God’s plan to help you get out of debt.
Kevin Dick will tell participants about Making the Most of Uncertain Markets. He will help show how to live your best life now. There are two main reasons why women do not invest: lack of experience and lack of knowledge, so his program will look at the tools to achieve financial success in a changing world.
Dane Owens will present Home Depot’s “Do-It-Herself Workshops” on how to repair a leaky faucet, fix an outlet, replace a light fixture and a variety of other projects.
Kendra Ringle, licensed massage therapist, will offer the program “The Wisdom of Wellness —Understanding Your Body,” an overview of how the nervous system, when subjected to stress and/or injury, affects digestion and health. She will discuss self-help techniques to manage pain and digestive issues and which alternative therapies may address your needs.
Vivian Seville’s program, “Psych-K,” is a user-friendly way to rewrite the software of your mind and change the printout of your life. She will show participants how to go beyond affirmations, will power and positive thinking and learn that when you change your beliefs you can change your life.
Chef Derek Wimpee’s program is “Your Path to Good Health” — a discussion of the Mediterranean diet, which gained widespread recognition in the 1990s. The diet includes high consumption of: olive oil, legumes, unrefined cereals, fruits and vegetables; moderate to high consumption of fish; moderate consumption of dairy products (mostly cheese and yogurt) and wine; and low consumption of meats and meat products.
