Here’s hoping for better times in the new year

Well, it’s a new year and I am sure everyone is hoping for better times. Especially for the economy to turn around. Let’s hope 2009 is a better year. Let’s hope for no more home foreclosures, and for the lowest gas and oil prices. Let’s hope for lower mortgage rates. For the end to the war, and for a cure for cancer, heart disease and diabetes. Let’s just remember to have hope.

It is also that time of year to make those New Year’s resolutions. And once again mine is too get into shape. It seems it gets harder every year. I think I have tried just about every type of exercise equipment they sell except for a treadmill. So, I have decided to add that to my list, and hope it works. We have had so much snow and ice that it is very hard to walk without falling down, let alone jog. I figure I can exercise and watch TV at the same time. As long as I don’t eat while I climb aboard the treadmill.

Christopher Creek had many visitors last weekend. There were cars pulled over along all the roads and snowmen were appearing alongside the roads and in the forest.

Some of these big white figures were quite handsome. There is a lot of talent out there. You could hear kids as they were sledding down every hill they could find. We had a lot of snow and it made a really nice white Christmas. I still get a kick out of those people who come up here in shorts and go sledding in the snow. I even had someone come to my door in flip-flops. It is like Christopher Creek is in another world. You leave here and hit Highway 260 and the roads are dry and the sun is shining. Here there is a ton of snow and ice. Go figure!

I can’t believe I am saying this, but on Jan. 3 they will be taking down the Christmas lights from the highway. It seems like they just put them up. Boy, am I getting old. Time just flies. Well, anyway, they need as much help as they can get.

All the fun starts at 9 a.m. at the fire hall.

Birthdays:

A belated birthday to Genny Dodson who celebrated on Dec. 28. Sorry Genny, I had the flu and forgot what day it was. Mel Milhon will be adding another candle to his cake on Jan. 1, as will my friend and writer from Tonto Village, Janet Snyder.

Janet and myself both celebrate on Jan. 1, and I know my cake is getting crowded, but I am not sure about Janet’s. Betty Mason will have another birthday on Jan. 3 and my friend Barbara Foreman will add another candle on Jan. 8. Wishing all of you a happy birthday.
