Payson Community Thanked By St. Vincent De Paul

Once again the Society of St. Vincent de Paul would like to thank you, the compassionate, caring community of Payson, for the generous donations during the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons.

On Turkey Tuesday, you helped us exceed, not only our expectations, but the number of turkeys donated last Thanksgiving, 2007.

Because of the sagging economy and increased numbers of persons seeking help from SVDP, we had been concerned that we would be unable to meet our commitments to the community. However, through the generosity of you Paysonites, we did it!

We received 309 turkeys, filling 301 family dinner boxes, feeding 1,024 persons for Thanksgiving. We also received $3,304 in cash donations and over $400 in gift cards which greatly help us in our assistance. The needs were great.

During the Christmas season, you were just as generous with cash donations and gift cards which enabled us to meet the increased needs of our clients.

This past year, the Rim Country Food Bank provided $435,229 worth of food to 17,753 persons. In addition, we provided assistance to 5,372 persons in client aid, totaling $95,594 to date: $31,077 for shelter; $26,201 for food purchases; $29,434 for utilities; $1,581 for medical aid; $4,936 for transportation; $791 for clothing; $200 for adopt a family for Christmas and $1,374 for special works.

Again, speaking for our brothers and sisters in need, a huge thank you, Payson!

Together, we make a difference.
