Brrrr! The weather outside is chilly! The thermometer in Tonto Village has hardly moved since the Christmas holiday.
The mercury has stayed around 20 degrees at night and barely moves upward during the day. The snow has not melted very much, and in some places, it is slippery with ice. About 2 inches of snow has fallen since Sunday, making the village look like a picture postcard.
There still is a problem with residents ignoring the ordinance of not parking in the street during the winter. Some of the streets in the village are very narrow, hardly enough room for two vehicles to pass, let alone an emergency vehicle such as a fire truck or ambulance. PLEASE do not block the streets with your cars, get off the street and park in your yard if need be. Don’t be the one to jeopardize someone’s life because an ambulance could not get through.
Precipitation totals for Bear Flat
I received unofficial precipitation totals for Bear Flat this morning from Dara Sutton and I was amazed. Bear Flat received a total for the year of 39.86 inches. The average is 22.2 inches. The total for December 2008 was 7.40 inches, and the average is 2.3 inches.
The totals for Tonto Village hopefully will be in next week’s column.
Resolutions for 2009
Have you made any New Year’s resolutions? Just about anyone you talk with, their intentions are good, but hardly anyone keeps them for any length of time.
The most important resolution I can think of is to be and become more healthy in every way. In this modern society with more television commercials showing all kinds of unhealthy food, it is really difficult to stay on a regimented diet. What is the answer? I don’t have one.
My will power is nil when it comes to a good hamburger or a thick juicy steak or anything chocolate. I will get out and walk the neighborhood, the experts say that walking is an easy way to keep those unwanted pounds from creeping up on you. Good luck to you who have made those resolutions and can keep them.
On Monday, Jan. 12, Phon and Dara Sutton of Bear Flat will celebrate 29 years of marriage.
On Jan. 15, Charlie and Ruby Terry of Tonto Village II, will be married for 62 years!
May every tomorrow be twice as sunny and sweet as all the days that have passed. Happy anniversary to both couples.
Hellsgate Fire Board
Don’t forget the regular meeting of the Hellsgate Fire Board on Wednesday, Jan. 14. The meeting starts at 5:30 p.m. at station #21 in Star Valley.
Be sure to attend to keep up with what is happening in your fire district.
Double D happenings
The New Year’s Eve celebration at the Double D was a success. Ethel Cain and the whole staff wish to give Jeff and Kara Shaw a special thank you for running the show. The new year was brought in at the ‘D’ in fine form thanks to Kara and Jeff.
There was only one tournament held this past week. The Sunday afternoon tournament was called off because of the snow storm. The nine-ball ladies pool tournament that meets on Tuesday evening managed to sweep Christopher Creek. The winners were Betty Koutz, Melissa Williams and Margaret Stasney. Congratulations to the winners.
