This past Wednesday evening at the Tonto Village Fire Station (Hellsgate Fire Station No. 22), during a special meeting, the Hellsgate Fire Department board officially voted to accept the Bear Flat area, approximately three square miles, into the fire department’s boundaries. The board accepted the validated petitions and the change in boundaries will take effect 30 days from Jan. 7.
The meeting room was filled to capacity and the crowd showed its approval by a round of applause.
There are decisions that still need to be made by the residents regarding the fire truck in Bear Flat, as to repairs and maintenance and training. The residents feel safer knowing that the fire department will take care of of them in case of emergencies.
Also on the agenda at this special meeting was a petition to include Zane Grey Meadows subdivision into the Hellsgate Fire district. Zane Grey Meadows is adjacent to Collins Ranch. The board will review the impact statement on the annexation of the subdivision. There will be two public meetings on this matter, for and against, before taking any type of action. Notice of the meetings will be given to the residents, also a newsletter will be made up for the residents to peruse. The fire board voted to move forward with an authorization for a petition drive. There needs to be a majority of the homeowners to start the process.
The next meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 12 at the Tonto Village Fire Station No. 22, for more discussion.
