Getaway Around Rim Country

Farmers Market stalls still available

Area gardeners, cooks and bakers with goods to share still have time to rent a stall or sign up for a spot on the co-op table at the Payson Farmers Market, which will be held from 8 a.m. to noon, every Saturday through October, starting Saturday, July 4 at the parking lot of the Community Presbyterian Church, 800 W. Main.

Musicians are needed to perform on Saturdays from July through October from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. All musicians will perform on a voluntary basis, but a sound system and tip jar will be provided. There will also be time set aside for an open microphone, if persons would like to sign up during the program to play after scheduled performers. Those interested in performing should call Anne at (928) 951-4420.

Join vendors already participating with locally grown vegetables, fruit, flowers, goat cheese, fudge, honey, jams and jellies, naturally sweetened fruit butters, eggs, baked goods, organic herbs and teas, pecans and more. For more details call (928) 472-2249 or (928) 468-0961.

This week on the bandstand at the park are Johnny Anonymous with rock from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., July 4; Gypsy Juke Rockers with rock, blues and R&B from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Rodeo Ring of Honor induction

The Tonto Basin of Arizona, in which rests Payson, is the home of 10 world champion cowboys and cowgirls who will be inducted into the Payson Pro Rodeo Ring of Honor.

The old ones will be honored – Charlie Meadows, George Cline, Joe Bassett and more; and then three world champion cowgirls and three deserving cowboys will be honored.

The Ring of Honor induction will take place at the August Doin’s Dinner and Dance on Friday, July 17 at the Mazatzal Hotel & Casino. This event is sponsored by the Payson Pro Rodeo Preservation and Alliance group, which is working hard to make sure the August Doin’s continues, and this is a chance to rub elbows with Payson area world champion rodeo athletes.

For tickets to this dinner, dance and Ring of Honor induction, contact Jayne Peace Pyle at (928) 474-0380 or call Jinx Pyle at (928) 474-0011. A table of eight is a $1,000 donation; individual seats are $125 each.
