Fancy title for special treatment

Editor:
It was gratifying to read the letter from Amanda Peters about the inaction of the Arizona legislature. They tried to impress us by working all night, risking a government shut-down. Would we have suffered if all non-essential workers had not come to work? Why do we have non-essential workers in these dire economic times?
The question asked was why elect those who are reluctant to do their job? The answer is that they want to be blameless.
I can’t imagine why anyone would not vote to ban the practice of affirmative action. It is a fancy title to give special treatment to any minority group. No one is less able because of the color of their skin or their gender. If it takes the voters to do away with this insane practice, we’ll do it and look even more skeptically at those we elect.
