The summer concert series continues this weekend with CG Blues performing at the Green Valley Park bandstand. Many concertgoers may know CG Blues better as the Common Ground Blues Band, a group which has performed in the series in the past. Only two concerts remain in the series. Junction 87 performs July 18 and The Payson Jazz Trio is slated for July 25. Payson area Girl Scouts

Girls in the Payson area, including current Girl Scouts, have the opportunity to learn more about plans for troops during the upcoming school year.

Girls entering kindergarten through third-grade are invited to come to an introductory program from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., Friday, July 10 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Hall, 1000 N. Easy St. Girls entering fourth- through 12th-grades are invited to a similar program from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m., Friday, July 17 at St. Paul’s. Activities on both nights include movies, crafts, games and free food. There is no charge for the events, but those planning to attend are asked to call Marcia Olson at (928) 474-5996 to register. On Tuesday, July 14, and Wednesday, July 15, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., girls can register at Safeway. Girl Scout registration is $12 and scholarships are available. Community Flea Market

The Community Presbyterian Church offers a fun-filled event on the second Saturday of each month in its parking lot: a Community Flea Market. Set for July 11, sales will open at 7 a.m. and close promptly at 1 p.m. Space registration is held at the church office between 9 a.m. and noon weekdays only. It is just $10 for a 10-foot-by-19-foot space, plus a refundable $10 deposit per vendor. For more information, call (928) 474-2059.

Payson Farmers Market

Each Saturday, from 8 a.m. to noon through October, Rim Country residents and visitors can enjoy the bounty of the area at the Payson Farmers Market in the parking lot of the Community Presbyterian Church, 800 W. Main St.

The market will have locally grown and produced vegetables, fruit, flowers, goat cheese and fudge, honey, jams and jellies, naturally sweetened fruit butters, eggs, free range and organic, baked goods, organic herbs and teas, pecans and more.

Brush drops open

This coming weekend, the Regional Payson Area Project for a Fire Wise Rim Country (RPAP) will be staffing free brush drop-off points at the following locations, weather permitting.

Saturday, July 11, the Blattner Pit will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Blattner Pit is located at milepost 259.7 on Highway 260, east of Payson.

Sunday, July 12, the Pine Pit will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Pine Pit is located 0.7 of a mile east of Highway 87 on Control Road, south of Pine.

Z-Coil shoe sale

Come see the new Z-Coil shoes on sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, July 11 in the main lobby of Payson Regional Medical Center. Styles include sneakers, boots, clogs and much more.

Mazatzal Hotel & Casino Arts and Crafts Fair

The Mazatzal Hotel & Casino is sponsoring an Arts and Crafts Fair from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, July 11. It will feature watercolor and oil paintings, birdhouses, jewelry of all kinds, including silver, beaded, gemstone, crystals and more. There will also be lots of woodworking pieces, lamps and gourds.

Enjoy the arts and crafts and shopping while DJ Craig entertains with his music.

Motorcycle ride to Strawberry

All Payson area riders are invited to meet at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 11 at the Payson United Methodist Church, 414 E. Easy St. (located behind Ace Hardware and next to Bison condominiums). Riders will travel to Strawberry for lunch.

Free Child Identification Program at Masonic Lodge

A free Child Identification Program is planned from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, July 11 at the Payson Masonic Lodge, 200 E. Rancho Road. Each parent or guardian is provided with a Child ID Kit that contains a photo identification card, color photos, digital fingerprints, a recorded interview and DNA cheek swab sample. This is all the information required by law enforcement to issue an Amber Alert should a child become missing. Pine Shop Hop

Many merchants in Pine have extended hours the second Saturday of the month for the Pine Shop Hop, with many featuring free refreshments and demonstrations. The shops participating in the July 11 events, open from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., will be: Pine by Design, Tymeless Antiques and Treasures, Moose Mountain Gifts and Antiques, Pine Creek Cabins, Gingerbread House, Crystal Lotus Gallery and Spiritual Life Center, Carol’s Country Crafts, Quilt Shop, Visions Speaking Rock Shop and Emporium, Pine Country Antiques and Pine Yarn Shop.

Ambassadors of Light to give free concert July 11, 12

Phoenix area young adults, organized as the Ambassadors of Light, will present a free concert of popular music at 7 p.m., Saturday, July 11 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 913 S. Ponderosa St.

On Sunday at 7 p.m., a different performance at the same location will highlight song and inspirational stories.

Both performances are at no cost and open to the public.

Jazz concert features vocalist Sherry Petta

The Payson Friends of Jazz and the Community Presbyterian Church sponsor the concert, part of a monthly series. A $5 donation at the door is requested; it covers not only an afternoon of great music, but refreshments. Concert in Pine

The Church on Randall Place in Pine will be hosting a concert from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., Sunday, July 12. The group performing is called “Hope.” It is comprised of eight very talented students from California Baptist University This event will take place at the church, 6338 W. Randall Place, Pine.

Blood drive

The Zane Grey Kiwanis Club and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church will sponsor a community blood drive from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday, July 13 at Shepherd of the Pines Lutheran Church, 507 W. Wade Lane. The qualifications for donating blood are: weigh at least 110 pounds and be in general good health (there are additional height/weight requirements for donors 16 to 22 years old); hydrate with plenty of water to make it easier to find your vein; eat a hearty, low-fat meal before donating to build your body’s energy; bring your ID and a list of medications.

Introduction to computers

St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 1000 N. Easy St., invites residents and visitors to participate in its sixth year of free, hands-on computer labs and learning sessions.

Classes will be held from 9 a.m. to noon, July 14 and 28, and Aug. 4, 11 and 25. Each session will have hourly refreshment breaks.

Estate planning seminar

Edward Jones financial adviser G. Scott Flake of Payson, with special guest Grant Walker from Jackson White Law, is hosting a free, 60-minute educational seminar, “Preparing Your Estate Plan,” from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 14 at Good Samaritan Society Majestic Rim, 310 E. Tyler Parkway. Participants will learn about what to consider when creating a will; benefits of trusts in estate planning; how to help reduce taxes on one’s estate; and how insurance can help protect one’s family.

Learn about Arizona Virtual Academy July 14

Arizona Virtual Academy will have a meet and greet program from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 14 at the Crosswinds Restaurant, 800 W. Airport Road.

Students can do a seasonal project while the adults can mingle, visit and ask questions. This is a great chance for interested families to ask questions and learn more about AZVA. AZVA has completed its accreditation process and is a fully accredited K-12 grade, free charter school.
