Art show
The Gila Community College summer semester art students of acrylic and watercolor painting classes will have an art show and sale of their work Thursday, July 16. The exhibit will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at From Head to Toe Essentials, 904 North Beeline in the Swiss Village Shopping Center between Back to Basics and the Laundromat.
The art exhibit and sale will be part of the monthly Rim Country Regional Chamber of Commerce Mixer. The chamber charges $3 for chamber members and $5 for nonmembers at the door, with the proceeds donated to Kiwanis for its needy children educational fund. Refreshments will be available, including wine and cheese.
The students, working under the direction of instructor Jacqui Jeffrey, are both beginning and advanced art students, who according to Jeffrey are “turning out some outstanding professional-quality work.” Students are learning various techniques, such as composition, perspective drawing, color theory, and methods to produce landscapes, seascapes and still life. She encourages art lovers to attend the show to enjoy the art and meet the students. Buying student artwork at very reasonable prices is a win-win for both student and recipient. All the work is matted and much of it is framed.
The acrylic students and Jeffrey would like to thank Home Depot, and specifically Michael Cambier, assistant manager, for the very generous donation of a large piece of Masonite. Special thanks goes out to Alan Chapin, a Home Depot employee, who cut the Masonite into many 9- -by-12 and 12-by-18-inch pieces. The students applied “gesso” to the boards as an optional painting surface instead of costly stretched canvas.
The artwork will be available at From Head to Toe Essentials for 4 to 5 days the following week, said owner Shannon James.
Chamber mixer
The July Chamber Mixer is from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday, July 16 at From Head to Toe Essentials, 904 N. Beeline Hwy., Payson. Admission is $3 for chamber members and $5 for non-members. Proceeds from admission to the mixer will benefit Kiwanis programs. In conjunction with the mixer, the art students from the Payson Campus of Gila Community College will have work on exhibit and for sale at the salon.
