The Payson “Wagon Wheel Territory” group of businesses will celebrate the National Day of the Cowboy from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, July 25. The businesses will host a series of musical performances throughout Payson. A decorated wagon wheel in front of their establishments can easily identify the Wagon Wheel businesses.
Lists of the times and places of the musical performers will be available at each of the participating Wagon Wheel businesses and at the Rim Country Regional Chamber of Commerce.
Some of the performers scheduled to perform include: Joe Miracle at Western Village from 10 a.m. to noon; Wayne Todd at Oasis Book Store from 10 a.m. to noon; Halos and Horns at Galarneau’s Gems from 10 a.m. to noon; Bryan Higgins at When Cowboys Dream from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.; and Eddie Armer at Past and Present Boutique from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Along with the musical presentations, the participating businesses will provide “merchants cards” during the event. Once 10 participating businesses have “initialed” the participant’s card, the card will be placed into a drawing for a handmade “Cowboy Memory Bear” provided by Tom’s Upholstery shop and other items.
This is the fifth year of the National Day of the Cowboy. This year, the Arizona State Legislature took action on June 29 to recognize the National Day of the Cowboy to preserve America’s cowboy heritage in education, the arts, celebrations, gatherings, rodeos, and community activities.
