A remote fire at the head of upper Dude Creek, off the Control Road, continues to burn but poses no threat to any structures, the U.S. Forest Service reports.
On Monday, July 20, around 6 p.m., lighting started a fire in the rugged and steep canyon east of Pine, said Gary Roberts, district fire prevention officer.
The fire is virtually inaccessible by foot, but local forest service firefighters, two hot shot crews from Prescott and New Mexico and a helicopter have managed to keep the fire contained to 100 acres within a box in the canyon.
“It has been moving toward the Highline Trail, but poses no threat at this time,” Roberts said.
Residents of Pine, Strawberry and Whispering Pines will see smoke for an undetermined length of time, he said.
