Two vehicles in a slow lane on Highway 87 collided Sunday as a motorcycle tried to pass a truck with a travel trailer. The slow lane ended before motorcycle driver Scott Brown could complete passing on the right, police said Monday.
Brown hit the travel trailer in the rear and fell.
Behind those two drivers, another motorcycle driver crashed into a Toyota RAV4 as he tried to avoid the accident, said Department of Public Safety Officer Doc Dimbat.
The accident occurred at milepost 271 northbound, shortly after noon.
Brown, a Valley resident in his late 30s, was airlifted to a Scottsdale hospital.
“He hit pretty hard,” Dimbat said.
Although Brown remained conscious, he was disoriented.
Dimbat said Brown broke bones in his foot, and will be released Friday.
The second motorcycle driver, Gregory Fischer, was not injured. Fischer, also a Valley resident, is 36.
Neither of the trucks’ drivers were injured, and both men on motorcycles wore helmets.
