Payson High School chemistry teacher Cynthia Pool was struck and killed by a tractor-trailer as she and a friend cycled June 9 through Wyoming on a coast-to-coast trip.
The Wyoming Highway Patrol says the 46-year-old mother of three was pronounced dead at the intersection of SR 789 and 28, about 10 miles south of Lander. Reportedly, the driver of the tractor-trailer failed to yield the right of way to the cyclists. The second cyclist avoided the collision and was not injured.
Payson High School Assistant Principal Tim Fruth said a celebration of life will be held at 6 p.m. June 17 in the Payson High auditorium.
Pool was The Payson Roundup’s Feature Teacher in the Sept. 16, 2008 edition.
She was well known in the Rim Country for her running, biking and triathlon activities.
In 1998, she competed in the Ironman World Triathlon Championships in Hawaii.
Pool was extremely popular among the students and fellow faculty members teaching mostly advanced placement classes.
