Pay Raises, New Budget Passed For Fire District

Monday night’s fire board meeting was a mixture of those for the budget and those against it.

No matter what was said, the vote was one against and two in favor, so it passed. Chairperson Debbie Dawson was against it, saying she was not for the pay raises for the chief and the personnel. Vice-Chairperson Margo Holmes was for the budget, as was Treasurer Jim Oliver.

Thirty-four residents attended the meeting. Kenny Jacobs of Colcord Estates spoke for quite a while on how the board needs to not raise the taxes and give raises.

He spoke on how his taxes were constantly going up and how hard it was for them. He said this was not the time to raise taxes, and he felt the board needed to listen to the people and if they didn’t want to do what the people wanted, maybe they should get a new board.

Clara Fletcher of Kohl’s Ranch wanted to know what the response times were for different areas.

The chief said since July 2008 they have taken the response time from 6 minutes down to 1 minute and 15 seconds. To Kohl’s it was 4 minutes and 35 seconds, which was down from 11 to 15 minutes previously.

Kyle Gourdoux of Ponderosa Springs said he was tired of being compared to Hellsgate. Saying we are in no way comparable to them.

Irma Armenta wanted to know what the procedure was if you needed a helicopter, and the chief stated that he could not order one and that they need a paramedic to launch the helicopter. He said it takes Lifestar 30 minutes, then the paramedic onboard can order one, and then you have to wait till the helicopter arrives.

Rod Britain supported the board and the budget, and asked those in favor to stand and applaud.

Vicki Grootegoed stood and said she spent many years on the department and gave a heartfelt reason why she was for the board and the department. She said it was now time for others to get off their butts, stop complaining and volunteer.

After all was said, the budget passed.

It’s that time of year again, and you are all invited to the Rim Country Talent and Art Show on Friday, June 26 at 6:30 pm and Saturday, June 27 at 2 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. at the Christopher Creek LDS Chapel.

The first part of the show will be honoring the veterans.

Badges will be given to the vets. They will be remembering our country, our flag and our vets. The Color Guard will be on hand.

Then they have their talent, of course. I’ll bet you didn’t know some of our locals have talent.

The Richardsons of Hunter Creek will have the Barbershop Quartet, and they can sing. Then there are those lovely Domino Ladies, or should I say Ballerinas, from the Melodrama; the sweetheart, Vicki Grootegoed; my friend, Janet Snyder, you all know her, she writes the other column; and let’s not forget Maureen Kirchhoefer. They will be singing for your pleasure.

I am told that James (Jim) West, the recording artist, will be on hand to entertain everyone. Tim Erhardt will be on hand to play the trumpet.

Karl Mann, of Hunter Creek, will be playing his guitar, accompanied by his grandchildren, and Paul Peters from Star Valley will be singing. This is just some of the talent on hand, and the rooms will be displaying local arts and crafts for your viewing. Mark your calendars; you don’t want to miss this.

Saturday, June 13 at 11 a.m. there will be an aerial salute to Candy Hart at Creekside Steakhouse for those who would like to come out and pay their respects to this sweetheart of a lady we all miss.
