A 15-year-old Boy Scout from Las Vegas died Saturday while hiking in a canyon east of Camp Verde.
The teen was hiking with two other Scouts and two Scout leaders at the bottom of West Clear Creek Canyon around 9 a.m., said the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office.
The teen reportedly jumped off a boulder, landed on his feet, looked back at one of the scouts and collapsed,
A Scout leader and the two Scouts stayed with the teen and performed CPR while the other Scout leader called the sheriff’s office.
Rescuers with the Camp Verde Fire Department and DPS carried the teen out of the canyon and he was transported to the Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Coconino County Sheriff Detectives said they would continue their investigation to determine the manner and cause of death.
