Mountain Lion Spotted In Hunter Creek Area

A mountain lion has been spotted in Hunter Creek. Jo Armistead has heard the cat over the last two weeks and Ralph and Dottie Christofferson said every morning it wakes them up below their home making an awful sound.

No tigers have been seen, but the fox in the area has had babies. Five cute, furry ones down near the creek.

As for bears, one was spotted by Brad McKee. He was leaving Hunter Creek last Sunday and one was alongside the road.

So, be careful when walking, especially if the wildlife has babies, because they can be very protective of them.

For those of you who don’t know there are leash laws here in Arizona — when you are in a neighborhood or in the forest it is the same, your pet must be on a leash.

Fines are high if you are caught. It seems to be a problem in Christopher Creek. People seem to think it is OK to walk their pet without a leash. A local resident was hiking in the forest when two large dogs came at her. The owner did not have the dogs on a leash and one was trying to bite her on the ankle. She called the sheriff and he told her all pets must be on a leash or they will get a fine.

4th of July happenings

The Firebelles will be hosting a pancake breakfast and bake sale on July 4 at the fire station. From 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Breakfast includes all you can eat pancakes, sausage, juice, milk or coffee. Ladies, start your ovens, they need baked goods for the sale, and as always, any funds raised at this event are used to support the Christopher/Kohl’s Fire Department.

Looks like July 4th is going to be a busy day. So, there is no need to cook, come out to the fire department for breakfast and go to Creekside for lunch, then head into town for the fireworks at 9 p.m. It is always an entertaining event.

Creekside is planning a 4th of July gathering. Music starts at noon and goes until the cows come home.

There will be all kinds of games for the kids. Bring along your chair, blanket and umbrella and enjoy the day. Vendors are welcome to join in. Contact Carol or Cindy at (928) 478-4389.

Don’t forget Dumpster Day is scheduled for Thursday, July 10 in Christopher Creek.

Talent and Art Show

Don’t forget next weekend is the Talent and Art Show at the LDS chapel in Christopher Creek. Shows are scheduled for Friday, June 26, at 6:30; Saturday, June 27 at 2 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. The first part will be honoring the veterans. Badges will be given out to the veterans; they will be remembering our country, our flag and our vets. Then the talent show starts. I’ll bet you did not know we had talent in Christopher Creek. It is free and I guarantee you will enjoy it.

Vacation Bible School is July 13-17, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to noon at the Christopher Creek Bible Fellowship Chapel. This year’s theme is “Join us for Boomerang Express — It All Comes Back to Jesus.” If you can help in any way or have any questions, call Teresa Purtee at (928) 478-4337.
