I would like to thank all of the people who showed up and assisted in the cleanup day at the East Verde River on June 13.
We accomplished 15 miles of stream cleanup and in the process amassed approximately 50 bags of trash along with a plastic swimming pool, assorted car parts, refrigerator parts, shower stalls, tool boxes and miscellaneous other assorted junk. The assistance of the U.S. Forest Service was greatly appreciated in removal of the collected trash.
I would also like to thank Walmart for the donation of the bottled water and Arizona Department of Transportation for the donation of the trash bags. We had a total of 30 people from Payson Flycasters Club/Gila Trout Chapter #530 of Trout Unlimited, private citizens, and various Payson groups, along with Forest Service (personnel) who helped in the cleanup, and amassed 150 hours of cleanup volunteer labor. It was a great effort and the stream and campgrounds look a lot better now.
