Lady Longhorns Streak Remains Intact.

The streak is a dubious one, but it remains in tact.

The Lady Horns have never made it to the state tournament’s final four in the 40-plus year history of the basketball program.

That smudge in PHS hoop history was expected to end this season when the state-third seeded Lady Horns entered the post season two weeks ago.

But Feb. 28 in a jam-packed Wilson dome, the Monument Valley Mustangs of the North region sidetracked PHS hopes with a pulsating 47-46 victory.

For Payson, the loss – which occurred in the state quarterfinals - eliminated the team from the 3A tournament.

Monument Valley, the North region fourth place finisher, advances to the final four along with Winslow, Alchesay and Chinle.

Winslow reached the semifinals with a 46-41 win over Window Rock, Alchesay whipped Safford 85-53 and Chile rolled over Maricopa 64-30.
