A Tribute To Katie

Katie, my golden retriever, was my constant companion for 15 years. Every person she met she greeted with her big brown eyes and a gentle wag of her tail.

She patiently accompanied me from one end of the country to the other. She wore her team T-shirt proudly as she walked all night in the ACS Relay for Life. She sat erect with her reindeer antlers and twinkling lights on the Habitat for Humanity Christmas float at several Payson Electric Light Parades.

She laid in the shade of a tree while I fished up on the Rim every summer and slept next to me every night. During the past year her hearing failed, her eyes got dim and she stumbled frequently during her evening walks. I had to lift her into the bed the last month and I prayed each night that she would slip quietly away, but that didn’t happen.

One morning she could no longer stand up so with the assistance of Dr. Drew Justice she crossed over the Rainbow Bridge while Dr. Drew comforted me. Thanks so much for your support.

I then drove her to Flagstaff where Russell Mann of Ponderosa Pet Crematory helped me to arrange for Katie’s final resting place. He handled everything with dignity and compassion. Thank you, Russell, for your support during those final moments.

Katie, you will always be missed and never be forgotten. Some day you’ll meet me again with that warm, loving greeting when I cross over the Rainbow Bridge.
