They say a community raises a child.
Recently I had the pleasure of visiting the Rim Country. We also had the pleasure of dining at a local restaurant and my evening was thrown upside down as I was leaving the establishment. I unfortunately observed a father slapping his son while carrying him out of a restaurant. The commotion was loud and the child could not have been more than 3 years old, if that. The father was a big, tall man and kept yelling, “Are you going to behave?”
An elderly lady had seen the incident too and stopped her car as she was driving out of the parking lot. We were both mortified and concerned for the child. I approached the man and asked him to stop hitting the child and he became verbally abusive and replied, “Don’t tell me how to raise my son.” I told the man slapping the child the way he was had to stop. I walked away and he kept screaming profanities at me.
Where was the child’s mother?
He walked back into the restaurant and yelled, “Do you want me to call the police?” and kept screaming obscenities at me. I told him, “Please do.” He got nervous and kept screaming.
It’s very sad when we can treat our children like this. Even more sad when adults think people shouldn’t get involved.
May God bless that child and hope his father gets the help he so badly needs.
Thank God people will continue to get involved! Americans have no tolerance for this.
